Monday Murals

I finally made it to Lake Placid, FL to get the rest of the murals I had missed in January.  I was able to get all of the ones I had missed with 2 exceptions:  one is over the entrance to the cafeteria in the elementary school, and since it is summer, and school is out...

The 2nd one I missed because it has been removed.  I was very upset at this, because it was eagles, and was over the drive-in window on the Bank of America.  I noticed it had been removed from the book provided by the Chamber of Commerce, but I drove by there anyway, hoping.  Nope, gone.  Sad...the original had been painted in 1994, and I don't know the reason for not refurbishing it.

There was a new mural in town - completed this year.  It is on the side of the Lake Placid Journal building and is titled: "Hometown News - Lake Placid Journal 1960".
This mural is 27' wide by 11' high.  The mural depicts a Linotype, which was often called the 8th wonder of the world, and a printing press.  There is also a newspaper carrier jumping out of the frame, and a news rack.  The artist was Monica Turner.

Here are 2 more views - more direct - that show a little more detail.

It's a shame about the eagles, but this is a beautiful mural! Nicely detailed!

I like the busy-ness of this one, just like a real newsroom with everyone on the go.

Love the newsroom scene. It is frustrating to go back and find something gone isn't it. Sad

Wow, this mural is fabulous! Sad about the eagle mural. Hubby and I went on an outing on a RZR (kindof like a four wheeler) We passed a rustic fence. I thought of you and had to take a pic. Maybe I can join in with the fence party that you participate in.
Hugs,
Jann

I'm glad you gave the dimensions otherwise I would not have guessed it is as large as it is. Always like historic scenes. I couldn't help but notice the little critters jumping out of the scene. A cute bit of punctuation. Thank you for participating in this week's Monday Mural.

This lovely mural will teach the next generation that lives without the need of printing presses.

Fantasic color and great crisp details. Wonderful mural.

I know how sad it is to miss an opportunity and find it gone the next time around. I have returned to places to capture a missed whatever or to retake a shot that was out of focus on download and found I was to late for a redo.
