Oh, Deer!

Surprise spotting by the hubby - he was driving, I had the camera - but he sees SO much more than I do!  Thankfully there was no traffic so we could back up and catch these two playing!
A little more sun than I would have liked...

Mom and baby

Hide and Seek - you run that way, I'll run this way!

You were supposed to run the other way!

C'mon, Mom - admit it - I win!  I found you!

Fencery!

Something about this fence has caught my attention every time I have passed it - this was the first photo I have managed to capture that was worth saving.  I just invites me in..

This one was part of a set of pillars at the entrance to a home.  I just bet they have horses on this farm...what do you think?

On the Street Where You Live

Down the street before,
But the pavement always
Stayed beneath my feet before.
All at once am I
Several stories high,
Knowing I'm on the street where you live.

Are there lilac trees
In the heart of town?
Can you hear a lark in any other part of town?
Does enchantment pour
Out of every door?
No, it's just on the street where you live.
And oh, the towering feeling
Just to know somehow you are near
The overpowering feeling
That any second you may suddenly appear.
People stop and stare
They don't bother me,
For there's no where else on earth
That I would rather be.
Let the time go by,
I won't care if I
Can be here on the street where you live.

Eagles!

I had been anxious to get out on our boat with my new 150-500mm lens - there is a pair of nesting eagles on the river and I was determined to get some photos of them.  We left early in the morning, last Wednesday, and headed out on a day that was destined to reach 100 degrees by early afternoon. I was sorely disappointed on the way out that the eagles were nowhere in sight!  I did manage to find lots of other water birds, which will find their way here on another day.  But, on the return trip, we spotted the pair on their customary perch!  Here, I present - Eagles!  As you can imagine, I took MANY photos of them...

I hope you enjoyed seeing these as much as I enjoyed seeing and photographing them!

Barn Charm #30

This first barn, while well-kept, didn't appear to house any animals - no fence in sight, no signs of life.
This 2nd barn, we passed 6 different times, each time attempting to get a photo of it.  But, it is on a busy highway, with their driveway the only place to pull over - and the barn was not visible from there.  I was very frustrated, because it really is a pretty barn!  Once you pass the barn, there is a dip in the road which makes the barn practically invisible. So, I had to make do with this drive-by shooting!

Monday's Mural

Not far from my home, there is a little area known as Phoebus - a town incorporated in 1900 and named for a local businessman, Harrison Phoebus, who is credited with convincing the Chesapeake and Ohio (C&O) Railway to extend the tracks to the town from Newport News, VA. The town became extinct in 1952 when it was consolidated with the city of Hampton.  Phoebus is considered an important historic district of Hampton and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

This mural graces the side of the Wanchese Fish Co., on Water Street.

Phoebus is an area rich in history, beginning with the landing of Capt. John Smith on a portion of the settlement in 1607.  Sadly. however, I can find no information on the artist for this mural.

How Great Thou Art

O Lord my God,
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all
The world Thy Hand hath made,
I see the stars,
I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy pow'r throughout
The universe displayed;
Then sings my soul,
My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!

When through the woods
And forest glades I wander

I hear the birds
Sing sweetly in the trees;

When I look down
From lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook
And feel the gentle breeze;

  Then sings my soul,
My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Saviour God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!

Acknowledging the awesome God who reigns in my life!

You Can't See Me!

This baby bunny - small enough to fit in the palm of my hand - was munching on some leaves just outside our RV last week.  I managed to get quite close, as you can see by the photos.  Once I got really close, he stopped chewing and appeared to be frozen.  I didn't torment the wee little thing too long before I turned my back so he could run away.  And, run away he did - super-fast - just like a ...well, just like a rabbit!

Well, you won't be able to see me if I hold really still and don't even breathe!
I was using my new 150-500mm lens, so I was 7.5' away from him at this point.  Pretty neat, huh?  You can see my reflection in his frightened eye!

Fences and 200!

Today marks my 200th blog post!  In the big scheme of things, that is not such a significant number - but, since this time last year I didn't have a clue what blogging was, I thought it was pretty big news!

During the course of the last months, I have "met" so many interesting people!  Some, I discovered, live pretty close to me.  Others live in far away places I will probably never get to visit. All in all (except for that malware scare earlier this week), it has been a great, fun ride!

Without further ado, here is my offering for Friday Fences!
Something about a long, white fence line...
Not particularly pretty, but durable!
Even though it needs some repair, I was captivated by this stepped fence!
