Barn Charm 13

Lucky 13!  Hard for me to believe I have been blogging long enough to have participated in 13 Barn Charms!  It has been fun to have a reason (other than "just because I thought it was a nice shot") to photograph barns.  And, of course, it is a great excuse to get us out of the house!

This weekend I visited some childhood friends - some of them I had not seen in 47 years!  On the way home from the visit, I had a chance to se LOTS of barns I would not have seen otherwise.  Of course, it took a lot longer to get home because I was driving...so it was drive, stop, shoot, drive, stop, shoot, pull over to let someone pass, drive, stop...you get the picture!  And, that's how I got the picture!

There were so many, but today, I think I will concentrate on the abandoned ones...

First, I saw the barn...

Then I realized there were more abandoned buildings...

Farther down the road I saw this.  It may be "threadbare" and leaning, but it still has the basketball hoop attached!

More Monday Murals

Another installment in the Lake Placid Mural journey.

.These are all from the mural entitled "Lake Placid Country Fair".

The completed size of this mural is 108 feet wide and 18 feet high!   It celebrates the Lake Placid Country Fair that has been held every year on the Saturday and Sunday of the first full weekend in Frbruary.  It began in 1966 with a handful of like minded people who wanted to show their work.

One thing I never mentioned about this town of murals is that in many of the murals, something is hidden for you to find.  In this one, there is someone that "everyone will recognize".  I wasn't sure I found it...or him.  But that is part of the fun of the murals!

Stay tuned for more from the interesting Town of Murals!

All Things Bright and Beautiful

"All things bright and beautiful,
All creatures great and small;
All things wise and wonderful,
The Lord God made them all."

I am posting early because I head back home tomorrow morning...Another week has passed, and I found another hymn that inspired me as a youngster.  I have enjoyed going back through that old hymnal and singing through those songs.  There were so many photos I had that would fit the words - I had a hard time choosing!

Creatures great...
and small...

Creatures wise
 and wonderful...

Blessings to you and yours on this glorious day!

Don't Mess with Him!

When we were in Florida, we came across a little farm where I spied a horse that I wanted to photograph.  Hubby willingly pulled off the road so I could snap my pictures.  I was so intent on the horse...

that I nearly missed this guy until he started walking toward the fence!

And on and on he walked...

until he was right at the fence.  I was glad I was still inside the car!  He had pretty scary horns!

And of course, the horse had to come check us out too!  I was NOT afraid of him!

Friday's Fence

Something about a rail fence just captures my eye. I don't think they are much good for keeping anything in or out, but nonetheless, I like them!  I was out scouting for photo ops this past weekend while visiting my aunt in the country.  I spied this fence at her neighbor's.

As I was walking back to the house, I turned around to look at the crabapple tree, wondering if it was going to produce this year, and saw this view.  I couldn't resist - something about the tree just added a charming accent to the fence.

This or That Thursday

Today I am trying a new (for me) meme - This or That Thursday.  I take so many photos that defy categorizing - just because I like the view - so it seemed like a perfect place to show some of them.  Hope you enjoy!

I am working on a photography challenge at our photo club - black and white.  This is something different for me - and very challenging!  In addition to finding things that look striking in black and white, I am trying to figure out what others might find interesting, since the challenge involves voting by the membership.  Not sure I have it yet, but am still trying.  I still have a few more days in the month!

Okay, it wasn't all about food...

I am still not sure I have found anything worth submitting...still shooting.  If you have any suggestions, I welcome any and all comments!

Also be sure to check out more photos over at This or That Thursday!

Teaching Him to Fly

I know this is supposed to be Wordless, but even though the photos tell the story, the story requires some setup.  These are among my all-time favorite photos.

Cast of Characters:
Roger, my brother
Cierra, our niece

Location:
Front porch swing at our Mother's house, Red House, VA

Time:
Several years ago (maybe 10 - my brother has been gone 3 years and Cierra is now 16!)

Tuesday's Barn

Traveling west toward the central part of the state, we always pass this dairy farm.

This trip, I managed to snag a drive-by photo of the operation.

As usual, in my ever eager desire to play with my new photo editing program, I have done some editing.   I love the lens flare...seemed perfect with the star on the top!

Of course, the etching is probably my favorite (besides the original, that is!).
