Brick Murals

By definition, a mural is "a painting or work of art executed directly on a wall"...I certainly think these qualify!

Downtown Portsmouth is home of the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame and Museum.  These figures are all along the outer walls of the Museum.

Linking to Monday Murals.

I have never in my born days seen anything like this!!! Outstanding...love the concept, and how they jut out for a special effect and play with shadows.

Very interesting! When I saw your first photo, I was thinking it was the Sports Museum in Portsmouth, which we've been to; didn't realize there was one in Norfolk, too!

Those are so cool! I think every brick building could do with one of those figures... :)

How'd they do it? Is it raised bricks? I don't think I've ever seen anything like it, how neat! =)

How very fabulous is this, built in murals, they'll definitely be there forever Linda. Well spotted, they're not that easy to see.

Very cool. And a nice variety of sports seem to be represented.

Very cool. I wonder if they were done when the building was constructed or were somehow added on? Either way I love them.

To echo the comments of other visitors, WOW!! So clever and subtle. I hope this starts a trend. I'm sure they could add more sports if they wanted. I'd like to see swimming just to see how they handle the water line. Thanks, Linda, for contributing to Monday Mural.

[Linda, you're welcome to ramble on my blog any time! And that is whether I would agree or not. In this case I sure do. Thanks!]

So incredibly creative for them to add these three dimensional touches to an otherwise boring red brick wall!

They are very interesting! You know, we lived in Olde Town Portsmouth for three years and I never went to the museum....we just aren't sports buffs. Have they opened up the new Train Museum yet?
