"Brightly beams our Father's mercy
From His lighthouse evermore;
But to us He gives the keeping
Of the lights along the shore.
Let the lower lights be burning!
Send a gleam across the wave!
Some poor fainting, struggling seaman
You may rescue, you may save."

Another old hymn - when was the last time you sang that one? What a beautiful reminder that, although our Father in heaven showers and protects us with His mercy, He gives to us the job of watching as we are able. Our lighthouses have long been the protector for the seamen off our shores.
