Foxy!

This strange looking critter is a bat-eared fox, a native of Africa, currently a resident of the St. Louis Zoo.  This fox is an insectivore, using his large ears to locate his prey.  Over 80% of his diet is the harvester termite.  If those are not available, he will consume other kinds of termites, and have even been known to eat ants, beetles, crickets, and other insects.  He is also occasionally called a cape fox and a black-eared fox.

Even though I hate seeing animals out of their natural habitat, I am grateful for the opportunity to see animals I would never see otherwise.

Hope you feel better soon. GET SOME REST.

'ear 'ear!! I agree Linda, it does sort of make you feel bad for animals in the zoo, but on the other hand it does give folk who would have no chance whatsoever to see them, that opportunity..and they're usually very well fed and looked after, so hopefully not all bad! hope you have a great weekend.

I have to admit it has been a few years since we last went to the zoo. Sad, considering that St. Louis has one of the best zoos in the country and it is still totally free.

I must have missed this little guy last trip. You have shamed me by posting something about my hometown that I have never seen.

I agree with you that to see these creatures in captivity isn't nice but we do get a chance to see them.

Really intersting animal Linda. The face looks just like a bat. Kind of scary actually. The fox is my youngest daughters favorite animal. I think she might think twice about this one. lol! I do seeing and learning about unusual animals.
