Jewels of Highlands County

Today's mural, still from Lake Placid, FL, is a tribute to the most treasured resource in the county - the lakes.  Within 7 miles of this location there are 27 lakes - from the smallest, Buck Lake, at 10 acres, to the largest, Lake Istokpoga, at 27,692 acres!  The mural is 34' wide and 13.5' high, and hidden within is an eye, 3 frogs, and the time the mural was completed.

Unfortunately for the quality of the photographs, the sun was shining brightly the day I was there, so the shadows overpower the beautiful colors in the mural, and obscure some of the detail.

Lake Istokpoga was groomed as a premier fishing lake.  I have visited the lake several times and can attest to the fact that there have been plenty of people fishing each time we have visited!

Next week, I will show you the Lake Istokpoga mural, as well as some of the photos we took from our last trip to the lake.

I am linking to Monday Murals.  Be sure to check out other murals there!

I'm glad you showed it from the two angles, Linda. When enlarged I can see how much work was put into this mural. It must be a very pretty spot.

[I agree with you about blog-hopping offering a wealth of knowledge that sadly too often goes in one eye and out the other... LOL!]

Ahhh, the joy of shooting in the great out doors. But the gist of the mural is still there. Nice capture.

even with the shadows, the color in the mural still is impressive!

It's a beauty even if the sun was giving you a hard time!

Wow...that's a real "beaut" - so colorful and very "stained glass window-like".....I love that the painter involves the public in such a special way - hiding little goodies for them to find. It's clever and one of those things we artists take great pleasure in sneaking in sometimes!!

Love of place is beautifully represented here. I love the use of egrets and their wings to make the central frame. Has a deco feel to it. Thank you again for participating in Monday Mural.

I like murals and this one is lovely. With all those lakes around, so you swim/fish?

I had to come and visit another Linda, from Monday Mosaic. Don't worry about your bright sunlight - it gives a lot of local 'feel' to your post. Too-bright sunshine is not a problem we have here.

Still can't see your photos, Linda!!! So frustrating! I will keep trying! My Mom thinks the problem is with Blogger. By the way, check out the video on my sidebar of "favorite Posts" at the top called "Postcards" It's a morning show piece from when I was Coordinator of the Suffolk Seaboard Museum!

What an amazing mural. It has an art-nouveau feel to it... You've done well with the photos, despite the sun.
