Friday's Fence

I am not sure what good this fence is doing...or even why it is here!

St. Luke's Church, Smithfield, VA

Linking to Friday's Fences.

Decorative purposes only, I would say.

Looks like a good way to keep vehicles out, but it surely wouldn't stop other traffic!

I'd venture to say it has everything to do with keeping order. The good stay in while the those not so good... must line up outside the gate and interviewed first, before gaining entry.

At some point it probably had a purpose... And today it's purpose is 'Friday Fences' :-)
Have a great weekend.

Maybe St. Luke's little gateway to heaven since it's "framing" a cemetery.... :D

Well it looks nice anyway and maybe keep the cars out.

Now this is interesting--as well as graceful! Do you suppose that the gate/fence was put up to prevent people driving into an obviously old cemetery? Relying on people's good manners to not drive over plots? :-)

Any chance there was a fence on both sides that now no longer exists? It's a very pretty gate, Linda. :)

I have seen this done a lot around here. Seems cemeteries like to have a grand entrance for the processions that pass through it.

I wonder if at some point it was attached to a fence Linda, it does look a little quirky sitting out there all by itself!
