The Sound of Music

The hills are alive with the sound of music
With songs they have sung for a thousand years.
The hills fill my heart with the sound of music,
My heart wants to sing ev'ry song it hears.
My heart wants to beat like the wings of the birds that rise
From the lakes to the trees
My heart wants to sigh like a chime that flies
From a church on a breeze,
To laugh like a brook when it trips and falls
Over stones on its way;
To sing through the night
Like a lark gull who is learning to pray.
I go to the hills when my heart is lonely,
I know I will hear what I've heard before
My heart will be blessed with the sound of music
And I'll sing once more.

It is a beautiful song you chose, Linda! I loved the photos, especially the last one of you and the view behind you. Have a great day!

Now I'll be humming that tune for the rest of the day...which is not a bad thing. You chose great photos to illustrate the lyrics.

Perfect song for your photos. I absolutely love the photo of the gull flying over the water.
I have such fond memories of that song. My aunts used to play the soundtrack album for my brothers and me all the time and we would all sing along. Fun times.
Happy Thursday!

Simply beautiful Linda. I'm taking a short break...did a blog post at Hootin's, but didn't do a themesong this week. That's okay, 'cause I could never have topped this one you did. The images are spectacular and of course the song...super. Oh, and I love all the photos, but my favorite of course is that of you for the last stanza.

I do look forward to this Thursday evening (for me anyway) treat Linda, I'm always thrilled with the way you match up images to the songs, even though I will go off to bed humming like Julie Andrews haha!

I to like the church best.

This reminded me of one of those e-mail forwards I received a few days ago about Julie Andrews and the Sound of Music. Regardless if its true or not I found the words ever so funny and in some parts especially true. I copied it here.

To commemorate her 70th birthday , Julie Andrews made a special appearance at Manhattan's Radio City Music Hall for the benefit of the AARP.

She performed 'My Favourite Things' from the legendary movie 'Sound Of Music'. Here are the lyrics she used:

(Sing It!) - If you sing it, it's especially hysterical!!!

Botox and nose drops and needles for knitting,
Walkers and handrails and new dental fittings,
Bundles of magazines tied up in string,
These are a few of my favourite things.

Cadillacs and cataracts, hearing aids and glasses,
Polident and Fixodent and false teeth in glasses,
Pacemakers, golf carts and porches with swings,
These are a few of my favourite things.

When the pipes leak, When the bones creak,
When the knees go bad,
I simply remember my favourite things,
And then I don't feel so bad.

Hot tea and crumpets and corn pads for bunions,
No spicy hot food or food cooked with onions,
Bathrobes and heating pads and hot meals they bring,
These are a few of my favourite things...

Back pain, confused brains and no need for sinnin',
Thin bones and fractures and hair that is thinnin',
And we won't mention our short shrunken frames,
When we remember our favourite things.

When the joints ache, When the hips break,
When the eyes grow dim,
Then I remember the great life I've had,
And then I don't feel so bad.
