Monday Means Murals

Another installment in the Lake Placid Murals photographs.  You can scarcely move anywhere in town and not be confronted with a mural - so much to see!  At the Chamber of Commerce, you can purchase a book for $3 that gives you the history of each mural - artist, date, concept, etc.  It is truly a wonderful place to spend a day!
95% of the Caladium bulbs in the world come from Lake Placid - this mural depicts the fields in full leaf - a fabulous sight to see.  Below is the photograph I took last year of the fields myself.
So many different varieties!  Obviously, this was shot from a distance, since you can't get into the fields! But, now, back to murals...

These three came from the Rotary Park in town - a delightful place with benches and a Koi pond, complete with a little bridge crossing it.  They represent 2 different murals - Layers of Time and Birding.  Lake Placid is on the State Birding Trail and the couty offers sanctuary to more than 300 winged species.  They have an annual bird count, conducted by volunteers every December.
Stay tuned for more photos in the weeks to come.  I will try to share a little more history each time.  Thanks for visiting!

By the way, the mural I posted last week, of the Cracker Trail Cattle Drive (on the side of Winn Dixie), is 175 feet wide by 30 feet high!

Linking to Monday Murals.

Having that car looking as if it is driving past the fields helps to give perspective to the size of these murals.

A city full of murals! That's a great catch. Such detail in them. Keep on clicking.

Wow.....these are super. Stunning work!! Alas, around here all the 'art work' on walls and fences are gang related!! That little book on the history of each mural would be a fascinating read.

Thanks for stopping by...I will reveal the hidden 'seasonal' object in the macro photos I posted...tomorrow! Stay tuned.

These are beautiful. I love art. If I was actually a good enough painter I would paint murals all over my house walls. Maybe someday when I have my own house and I have a garden. I might have a mural in one of the outdoor walls like this! I would love to see rolling hills as if I was in Ireland or the English countryside! Thanks for sharing the pics. =)

You weren't kidding when you said Lake Placid is the town of murals. Incredible diversity of style and theme. I like your notations on history associated with the murals. Thanks so much for participating in Monday Mural.
