This week's contribution to Monday Murals is titled "The Trail to Eagle Scout". The mural is 40' wide by 8' high and is a tribute to all those involved in scouting at any level. Scouting was founded in 1907 in Great Britain by Lord Robert Baden-Powell, a general in the British Army (pictured to the left of the Eagle Scout emblem in the first view). He invited a group of boys to attend the world's first Boy Scout camp. In February, 1910, he brought Boy Scouting to America. The birthday of scouting is celebrated on February 8th.
This portion of the mural depicts the various ranks of Eagle Scout. Fewer then 4% of boys entering the scout program reach this status.
This mural highlights 2 scouts of Troop 482, Lake Placid, Florida: Joe Hernandez and Todd Fortier. Joe reached Life Scout Rank and Todd achieved Eagle, earning bronze, gold and silver Eagle Palms, and became a Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. Both these boys were lost in separate vehicle accidents. They are honored and remembered in the mural - pictured here on either side of the Eagle Scout emblem.
I am linking to Monday Murals.

my brother went through the scouts. he made it to the top. i was there with my parents the whole way. it was fun to see the kinship the boys had all together. great photos. have a great week. (:
I knew reaching Eagle Scout was quite an endeavor, but never knew that less than 4% made it that far.
How sad that two scouts from that one troop lost their lives in traffic accidents.
Beautiful murals - thanks for sharing!
Fantastic Linda. I so enjoy these murals. And you adding the history of them all makes it all the more fun to read. I love the fact they honored the two on the mural...goes to show you that Scouting is here to stay!!
Oh, and since we were gone most of the day yesterday I had to catch up on your Sunday post...what a pristine and glorious image share...and beautiful sentiments.
You have the BEST murals. This is a great one. Eagle Scout is always a great accomplishment. Shows tenacity, loyalty and honor
It's a great group to get the honour of having their own mural.
A terrific mural Linda! Truly done well. The faces are amazing. I hope your Hubby is doing well. I read in comments this morning that he had to go to the ER a second time. Thinking about you both!
Scouting is a wonderful way for young boys to pave the way for a better future. I didn't know less then 4% make it to the top honors of Eagle Scout! Love the murals and the history behind it!
what a great mural. :)
Beautifully painted murals Linda, and such a great organization world wide.
A friend of ours is a top leader of the Boy Scouts here Asia. Lord Robert Baden-Powell would be pleased to see his organization go global. Wonderful commemorative mural.
what a spectacular mural. very well done, it's beautiful. I read that Dan is home and recovering nicely - happy to learn that good news. I've been thinking of you. Wishing you both a happy week and good health.
Another amazing Lake Placid mural. I knew rising to the rank of Eagle Scout was relatively rare, but didn't realize how rare. The necessary levels of commitment and persistence are so impressive. What a tragedy that two local scouts lost their lives so young. The mural has a lovely design and I like the tent flap pulled back to reveal the interior. Thank you for contributing to this week's Monday Mural. Also sending best wishes to your husband.
Nice murals.
I was involved with Guiding for many years.
Fabulous! I wonder if many kids join these days.
What a wonderful tribute to this great youth movement.
What a lovely tribute and a beautifully executed mural.
Great mural Linda. My hubby is a scout leader for the 11 year old boys. Such a great program!
Hugs,
Jann
