Lake Istokpoga - Part 3

I know...this seems like the never-ending story, doesn't it?  But, there are 3 murals in Lake Placid devoted to Istokpoga.  This is the last one.

The mural is 50' wide by 13' high.  In this one, 2 Seminole Indians, each wearing a different century of dress, are hunting the gigantic alligator.  Behind the Great Blue Heron, a thunderstorm is approaching, making the lake dangerous.

The lake is not a typical lake.  It stretches across 27,692 acres, but its depth only averages 6 feet.  It contains nearly half of all the lake surface in Highlands County.  For thousands of years, nearly all of the water that drains off the Lake Wales Ridge reaches Istokpoga, and then eventually flows into Lake Okeechobee on its way to the Everglades.  Finally, the water flows into Florida Bay.

The artist, Keith Goodson, features the Great Blue Heron, ducks, the white heron and little green heron, red-wing blackbirds that winter here, and the osprey.

The artist has included three little raccoons for people to find.

I have also included a few more shots of the lake from my visit there earlier this year.

Each mural is unique, so one would never get bored looking at their view of this lake.
Did you find the 3 raccoons?

I like the way the lake creatures dwarf the men. The heron looks like the king of the realm. And that gator looks like he's ready to step off the mural onto the sidewalk. I'd give him a wide berth. You have a wondrous supply of fascinating murals to share. Thanks for linking to Monday Mural.

Incredible mural artistry....looks like that alligator is VERY close to hopping off the mural and hitting the sidewalk!!

It's wonderful! Hopefully that water reaches the everglades and is diverted.
