To bring you this special announcement: She did it! Our Hometown Girl, Gabby Douglas, from Virginia Beach, has won the team gold and all-around gold in the Olympics. She is the first American gymnast to win both those medals, and also the first female African American to win the top individual prize.
This mural is 8' x30' and sits on the east-facing wall of AJ Gator's. I went early in the morning to avoid having a parking lot full of cars. As it was, there were others there to do the same thing - acknowledge the accomplishment of one of our own.
Todd Lindbergh, of T.A.L.Ent, completed the mural in 3 days of super hot mornings and afternoon rains. Todd and his brother, Eric, have painted quite a few murals in Virginia Beach, honoring firefighters, fallen police officers (I have posted these on previous Monday Murals), and mascot murals for schools. There is also a mural that was painted after the Navy jet crashed into the Mayfair Mews apartment complex earlier this year. That one will be featured in another post.
Thanks to the brothers, and the owners of AJ Gators, for providing this beautiful mural!

I can't believe how fast they got this up. And there's nothing slapdash about it either. She will be thrilled when she sees it. Knowing her hometown is so proud of her is icing on the cake. Congrats to her and all of Team USA. Thanks for contributing to Monday Mural.
What a great mural!! Congrats to Gabby and to all the USA team!

Congratulations to Gabby! She did an outstanding job at the Olympics! This mural is beautiful, they did excellent work! Thanks for sharing it with us! :)
This mural is an honor to Gabby, who has made her home town and country proud. It's a testament to our "one world" that her coach is Chinese. Liang Chow was also the coach of the American medalist gymnast Shawn Johnson. :-)
Fast work! Thanks for showing it.
Wow - puts a tear of pride in my eye. Thank you for sharing!
They certainly didn't waste any time getting that mural up!

Amazing artist that could do this so quickly and so well.
I know she will be so proud of the reception of her home town. I also know we will be seeing a lot more of Gabby for years to come.
How exciting--she did do a superb job. And I love her smile.
Great tribute to a great athlete!
