Thursday Theme Song

There's a Long, Long Trail
A bit of history on the song:  though it has long been associated with WWI (and I am sure ALL of you remember that war!), it was actually written to be sung at a fraternity banquet the year before the war was declared -  in 1913, by a pair of Yale undergrads.  I tried to find a decent audio file of the song for those who don't know it, but most of them were not great quality...I have included one of them at the end, if you want to listen.

There's a long, long trail a-winding
Into the land of my dreams,
Where the nightingales are singing
And a white moon beams.
There's a long, long night of waiting
Until my dreams all come true;
Till the day when I'll be going down
That long, long trail with you.
The song can be heard here: There's a Long, Long Trail.

LOVELY post!
Every week you amaze me with your choice of photos to relate to the words. To use the rainbow for dreams, an empty park bench for being together - it just clicks.
I know I say this every week but - well done!

Such lovely photos to accompany the beautiful old lyrics, Linda. I might not remember WWI, but I sure do remember this song, and I can see why it was picked up as a war-era love tune and not left as a frat song for undergrads.
Thanks for sharing the long, long trail this song has wound throughout the years.

What a great post, Linda!
«Louis» especially likes the photo with the moon and the clouds.

M. Scélérat, editeur à «Louis»: I'm SHOCKED that you didn't call that photo a "moon shot"!

«Louis» à M. Scélérat, editeur : Aw, shaddup! How about I ram your backside with my horns and launch you on a little "moon shot" of your own?!

M. Scélérat, editeur: GULP!
