Fishing in the River

I went down to the river...to photograph the sunrise.  I startled a Great Blue Heron that was on the shore.  Of course, again, because I was only expecting the sunrise, I did not have my 500mm lens.  Drat!  Anyway, at some point, Dan quietly told me that the GBH was fishing not far offshore.  I know the Piankatank River in Gloucester, VA is pretty shallow at low tide, but this was ridiculous!
It wasn't until I downloaded the photos that we realized where he was standing!  See the fence in the water?
I watched him catch and eat 2 fish that morning...all the while wishing for the bigger lens!

Sounds like the perfect definition of frustration. Good story though.

Those are some lovely shots. It's amazing what surprises we find when we're not looking!

LINDA! You MUST carry the big lens at all times! :)
Still, these aren't bad shots at all and you did to see the action. I hope you did enjoy the moment.

Just saw what Theresa said.... :)

I like the photos just the way they are! The morning light on the water is beautiful.

Linda, even without the big lens I like your shots of the heron. It is fun to watch them fish, they are great at fishing. Have a wonderful day.

You always have the lens you don't want - but if you had them all you would not be bale to move!

I think its good to see a bird in a wider setting sometimes - but I often want a longer lens too!

You need to get yourself one of those camera bags Linda, so much easier and safer to carry that lens in. I wouldn't worry, they are still gorgeous images.

The wrong lens? I know the feeling you had! Still, these are lovely photos.

Linda such a cool picture with him on the fence! It's hard to remember lenses and the bigger they are the more I hate to think about lugging them around. I bought a new camera waaaaay back the end of last winter. So now I keep my 70-300 on the old one and a 35 or 18-55 on the new one. Both cameras go where I go. Now if I could just get motivated to snap some pictures! Good Morning to you!! It's raining here, rained the whole dang night and it's still raining!! WooHoooo!

What a lovely way to spend your morning. I can not think of anything more relaxing than a walk by the river. Great shots and thanks for pointing out the fence. I might have missed it. What a clever bird! Have a great day, Connie :)
