Wedding Jitters!

For Mama Kat's Workshop this week, I chose to share a story about a sibling.  My sister, Jennifer, is 21 years younger than me - I had 2 sons older and 2 sons younger than she is.  There are many stories I could tell - but I value my life so I won't tell those!  What I will tell you about is her wedding day.

Our father had been very ill with a heart condition, and we were all concerned that he might not be around very long, so Jen and Brad decided to move their wedding up to take place before Brad was shipped out on a Navy cruise.  By the time they made this decision we had less than 1 week to prepare for the big event.  Our mother put together the food,  rented the arbor, got the house ready for a wedding; they found a preacher and invited the guests, I prepared to play the music, and we managed to pull it all together.  Of course, the stress level was pretty high - for all of us!  Jen always had a penchant for drama, and preparing for the wedding proved no exception!  As I recall it, the night before the wedding, she had a falling out with her best friend.  I don't remember what the argument was about, but suffice it to say that on the the day of the wedding, Jen was a basket case.

She was emotional, either snapping someone's head off, or fighting back tears.  Mom was afraid she wasn't going to make it through the day without doing something drastic.  I should have known that Mom would know how to handle it - she always does.

As the time drew close, I went upstairs to check on Jen.  She was sitting at the dressing table in Mom's bedroom, with her hair in hot rollers, looking quite calm.  I was astounded at the transformation - from the frantic "Bridezilla" to this dreamy-eyed girl - what on earth had happened?

So, I asked the question - what happened to you?  Her answer - "Mom gave me some of her herbal crap!"  By the way, we have that on video so she can never deny it! ( I cleaned it up a little for publication!)
Wedding Day, August, 1990

It worked, we survived the wedding, her marriage is in its 22nd year, they have 3 children, our Dad was around for another 16 years, and Mom is still dispensing her "herbal crap" - I was lucky enough to be on the receiving end at Christmas time this past year!  What can I say?  It still works!

Love you, Sis!

What a wonderful story!!! Thank goodness your Mom knew what to do to save the day.
Your sister was a beautiful bride, and what a lovely family they have.

I swear, Linda...this was like sitting down with you in your living room [or if we're family --around the kitchen table] just chatting away and I listening to your tales of the wedding to come and the 'herbal crap'.

But you certainly have piqued my interest tho...what is IN the herbal concoction?!!! Let's see...Irish so it must be beer...no, Irish Whiskey?!!! [I'm of Irish decent too, so I'm not making sport of the Irish....just being well...Irish]

Anyway. Your sister is beautiful. I love the family portrait......all in white with the sand and the surf backdrop.

Loved your share today. Very much so.

Yikes, a week to put together a wedding..well done!! Sometimes it's better that way, months and years to plan can sometimes be even more stressful and for a longer period. Your sister and her family look very happy, I do love a story with a happy ending!! Your Mum should bottle her 'herbal crap' she'd make a fortune haha!
